GAME 1 — or — how I almost missed it…

I had set my TiVo to tape the first hockey game between San Jose Sharks and the Nashville Predators manually since DirecTv had not listed the games as of last night. I set it to tape from 5 PM PT to 8 PM PT… (My son told me that he thought that would be more than enough time.)  I went over to see my grandson after work — knowing that I could watch the game in its entirety when I got home.

Well, when I left my son’s house, it was 2-1 in the 2nd period. I stopped at the grocery store and bought some stuff for dinner and headed for home. Started watching the game at the beginning while I was eating dinner. Fast forwarded through all the commercials and intermissions like I usually do. At around 8 PM, I noticed that the TiVo was no longer taping. I was in the middle of the 3rd period already and figured that the game would end on time…

I got a little queasy feeling when the score got tied up 4-4 but I figured someone would score in the first few minutes of the OT period. My TiVo stopped taping and turned off 6 minutes into the OT. SHIT!… I mean SHOOT! Quick like a bunny, I switched over to watching live TV in hopes that my 30 minute delay would catch the end of the game or at least give me the final score. (Now – remember – I wasn’t watching the game in real time since I started watching it from the beginning when in real time it was almost to the end of the 2nd period.)

PHEW! The game is still on. Oh! Wait! 2nd OT. NO SHIT!!!…  I mean “REALLY?   It is still tied!!??”  I have missed the equivalent of one whole OT period and the damn score is still tied??? Oh man…

Good news is I got to watch the end of the game and see Rissmiller make amends for turning over the puck to the Preds and letting them score the tieing goal.  All’s well that ends well.

Great game Sharks!  Good job!

Now — I’m going to go put band-aids on the tips of all of what is left of my fingernails and go to bed.  This is game 1 and how many freakin’ rounds are there?  I hope they have a good TV set in heaven so I can find out who wins the Stanley Cup.  I might not make it this year…
